Comments Off

As affected folks know, Stryker Rejuvenate hip failure case filings throughout the United States continues to expand, with several thousand injured patients claiming that they have experienced problems after receiving the recalled hip metal on metal implant.

Minnesota Federal Stryker MDL

U.S. District Court Judge Donovan Frank is presiding over all federal cases, which were centralized in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota as part of an MDL, or Multidistrict Litigation. According to court documents, there are 573 Stryker Rejuvenate lawsuits pending in the federal MDL, with plaintiffs indicating that at least another 1,000 cases will be filed in the coming months on behalf of individuals who have retained lawyers.

State Court Stryker Actions

900 Stryker Rejuvenate hip failure cases have been filed in various state courts throughout the country. 779 of those claims are pending in New Jersey state court. The New Jersey cases have been centralize before Judge Brian R. Martinotti for coordinated pretrial handling. More than 100 additional lawsuits are pending in various other states.

What is the Problem with Stryker Rejuvenate Hips?

The Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II claim to fame was that it contains modular neck-stems, this was its main selling point. The modular stem consists of two pieces that fit inside each other to allow the surgeon to customize the length of the femoral component. Unfortunately, the design has been linked to metallosis (metal posioning) that results from the release of metal debris as the chromium-cobalt neck grinds against the titanium femoral stem.

Early Failure with Stryker Rejuvenate Hips

Hip replacements are expected to last 15 to 20 years, the Stryker Rejuvenate recall was issued in July 2012, less than two years after the design was introduced. According to expert estimates, at least 20,000 implants were sold before the metallosis problems were disclosed by the manufacturer.

Stryker Hip Settlement Update

According to a joint status report on February 17, the parties representing Stryker and plaintiffs indicate that discussions are continuing to reach a global hip settlement. A mediation schedule in New Jersey state court has resulted in the settlement of several cases. The first phase of the Stryker Rejuvenate mediation schedule involved a group of 10 cases.
