As a Texas Yaz and Yasmin Deep Vein Thrombois and Pulmonary Embolism attorney I am providing inforamtion on a recently filed YAZ Injury case. An Oklahoman woman has filed a deep vein thrombosis injury against Bayer, the maker of the highly popuar oral birth control pills, Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella. According to local television channel, KFOR-TV, Brandy Armantrout, aged 32, started taking Yaz back in 2007. Recently in December she started to feel tingling in her left arm. She sought emergency medical therapy at a local hospital, and was diagnosed with a catastrophic case of deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in her arm.

Unfortunately the damage was too great and irreversible and surgeons had to amputate Armantrout’s arm above the elbow. The amputation has been devastating for Brandy, her husband Mikeal and their 4-year-old daughter, Maxine. Several days after the amputation, Brandy was told that she has no medical insurance coverage for prosthetics.

Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella Birth Control Pill Injuries

More than 12,000 American women are alleging a Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella injury after suffering a deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke or death caused by the drospirenone-based birth control pills. Yaz was the top-selling birth control pill in 2008 and 2009.

These birth control pills are extremely popular with younger females and contain the fourth-generation progestin drospirenone, which has been linked to an increased risk of blood clots when compared to certain older birth control pills. The warning labels provided to women using Yaz and Yasmin failed to reflect this increased risk, according to lawsuit allegations.

Bayer is Settling Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Cases

Bayer in January 2012, announced a global settlement for women who suffered side effects from the use of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella. To date Bayer has reached Yaz settlement agreements in over 3 thousand injury cases involving women who claim that they suffered a pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis injury after taking the brand-name birth control pills. Bayer is only settling deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and brain venous thrombosis cases. Bayer has indicated that they are not settling arterial embolic or clot cases, gall bladder injury cases or cases from using Beyaz, another oral birth control pill manufactured by Bayer, although plaintiff attorneys suspect that they will be settled at a later date.
